Ben Thanh Market

LOCATION:
          Located in the city center. Ben Thanh market today are rectangular, or four doors Guo square, and the road: Phan Boi Chau and Phan Chu Trinh and Le Thanh Ton, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

Before the French invasion of Saigon in 1859, there was a small market situated in the wetland soil adjacent to the Ben Nghe River and close to Saigon. From this origin that market named as Ben transplantation. Cho was built of brick, wood frame, thatch. In 1870, the market burnt part. In 1911, the old markets were demolished, new markets be broader spacious and completed in March / 1914.

After 1975, the Ben Thanh market was upgraded to spruce up a lot compared to before. In 1985, Ben Thanh Market revamp the entire inside, outside, only look forward to the clock tower remain the same. Photos from Ben Thanh Market to the clock tower is often used as a symbol for the city.
Now Ben Thanh Market is a major trade center of Ho Chi Minh not only but also of the southern provinces.
